    Getting Started with MCP Central

    MCP Central is the discovery platform for AI agent tools. In this guide, you'll connect your first MCP server and use AI-powered tools — all in your browser, in under a minute.

    Step 1: Open the Playground

    Navigate to mcpcentral.io/playground. No account required — you get 20 free messages to try everything.

    You'll see the chat interface with:

    • Ask anything... input box
    • Tools button (bottom left)
    • Model selector (bottom right)

    Step 2: Connect an MCP Server

    Click the Tools button to open the quick menu. You'll see the MCP server marketplace with hundreds of servers organized by category.

    For your first connection, try the Time server — it's simple and works without authentication:

    1. Find "Time" in the marketplace
    2. Click Connect
    3. Watch the green dot appear — you're connected!

    The tool count badge updates to show your new tools (e.g., "2/2 connected").

    Step 3: Use a Tool

    Now ask the AI something that requires the tool:

    "What time is it in Tokyo right now?"

    Watch what happens:

    1. The AI recognizes it needs the time tool
    2. A tool call appears with the wrench icon
    3. The MCP server responds with live data
    4. The AI formats the answer for you

    This isn't a memorized response — the AI made a real API call through the Model Context Protocol.

    Step 4: Go Deeper

    Try connecting more servers:

    • Filesystem — Search and read files
    • GitHub — Create issues, search repos
    • Web Search — Real-time internet search

    Each server adds new tools the AI can use. Ask multi-step questions and watch the AI chain multiple tools together.

    Step 5: Sign In for More

    After 15 messages, you'll see a sign-in prompt. Creating an account unlocks:

    • Unlimited messages and tool calls
    • Session history — resume past conversations
    • API key management — use GPT-5, Claude, and more
    • 21+ pre-installed skills from the marketplace
